Christina AkersPractice Manager, Licensed Veterinary Technician
Christina has been working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic since graduating from Blue Ridge Community College in 2006 with Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. She started at our clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician and became the Practice Manager in 2010. Although Christina loved living in the Shenandoah Valley while attending school, she couldn't wait to move back to the New River Valley where she was born and raised. From a very young age Christina had a passion and love for animals.
When Christina is not at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.
Megan VaughnFront Office Coordinator
Megan started working here when she was still in high school as a devoted kennel member. After leaving for a few short years, she made her way back. Megan is a jack of all trades and can do almost any job we have here at the clinic. She is currently working on her veterinary technology degree from Penn Foster.
Megan shares her home with her husband, 3 dogs and 2 cats. In her free time, Megan enjoys taking walks with her fur babies and spending time with her extended family.
Katie WallLicensed Veterinary Technician
Katie has been working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic since April 2012. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with an Associate degree in Agriculture Technology. From there, Katie continued her education at Blue Ridge Community College and in 2011 graduated with Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. Katie has always loved taking care of animals since she was small while growing up on her family's farm.
During Katie's free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, reading, crocheting, and cooking.
Kim PensingerLicensed Veterinary Technician
Kim has been working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic since November 2015 as one of our Licensed Veterinary Technicians. She graduated from the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2009 with Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. Kim worked for a Veterinary Ophthalmologist in Colorado. After moving from Colorado, she worked in an Equine Practice in Texas before moving back to Virginia.
In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her husband and her two 'rockethounds' (dogs) and gardening.
Amanda joined our team in August 2013. She moved to the New River Valley in 2002 and began her grooming career in 2007. She grew up in a home with dogs, cats, and reptiles and her passion for animals has just grown from there.
Her and her husband share their home with a parrot, dogs, and a cat. They both enjoy the outdoors, photography and music festivals.
Sarah OertleClient Relations/Kennel Manager
Sarah started working as a kennel member in August 2016. She currently manages our kennel staff, manages our reminder system, and works at our front desk and treatment area. She is a full time student at Radford University. When you stop by, you may be greeted at our front desk by Sarah's dog, Bear.
Sarah enjoys hiking and traveling when she isn't working or studying.
Alexis NortonClient Relations
Alexis started as our main receptionist in August 2017. She came to Riverside Veterinary Clinic from the human health care field. Alexis wanted a change in her career and has always wanted to learn more about animals. She recently graduated from New River Community College with her Associates degree in business.
During her free time, Alexis enjoys painting and snuggling with her pets.
McKenzie HuntVeterinary Assistant
McKenzie started working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic as a kennel attendant in July 2015 and have since became one of our exam room assistants. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know our clients and their pets. McKenzie loves working with the doctors to learn new things each day as she plans for Vet School. She graduated from Radford University in May 2017 with a B.S. in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry, and will be attending vet school in August 2019.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dog Bella and cat Sam, painting, and playing the piano.

Haley BurgerVeterinary Assistant
Haley started working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in May 2016. She is one of our Exam Room assistants who is a huge asset to our doctors. Haley is working on her Masters degree in Veterinary Forensics at University of Florida. Her future plans are to attend Veterinary School.
Haley enjoys working with her farm animals and spending time with her dogs.
Daniel ShupeExam Room Assistant
Daniel started working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in March of 2018. Daniel started as a kennel attendant and worked his way up to the treatment room as a Veterinary Assistant. He is now working as a Exam Room Assistant and enjoys interacting with our patients and their owners. Daniel hopes to start the Penn Foster Vet Tech program soon.
In his free time, Daniel enjoys music festivals and spending time with his dog, Ginger.

Ninja BowersKennel Assistant
Ever since Ninja was 10 years old, she has raised farm and domestic animals and loved taking care of them, which lead her to go to college to become a veterinarian someday. She is working on her BS degree in Biology at Radford University. Ninja plans on attending Vet Tech school in the future.
She is outdoorsy, and loves spending time with her dog, a Border Collie Coonhound Mix named Diesel who she shares with her best friend who does SAR training.
James NugentKennel Attendant
James started working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in September of 2018. He is our valuable kennel attendant who also serves as our handyman. James is attending Radford University studying to be a vocal music ed teacher.
In James' free time, he enjoys singing in Radford University's Low Key acapella group, surfing, sailing and playing soccer.
